TEEKANNE brings
Maintenance management to a new level with Ultimo
Tea enjoyment and innovation: this is what TEEKANNE GmbH & Co. KG has stood for for over 140 years. The company is known for its high product quality and new flavours, as well as for inventing the tea bag packaging machine and the double chamber bag, which is now used worldwide.
TEEKANNE uses state-of-the-art processes
TEEKANNE relies on state-of-the-art processes and technologies in its production. The company introduced the Ultimo Enterprise Asset Management solution back in 2018 to digitise its maintenance management. ‘Paperless production is part of TEEKANNE's corporate strategy. Ultimo makes our maintenance management mobile and accessible from anywhere. The EAM system is therefore an essential component of digitalisation,’ says Malte Poschmann, who is responsible for its introduction and use as Head of Environment & Production Systems at TEEKANNE.
The system was initially installed on the company's own servers and connected to an SAP interface for inventory management. It replaced the company's own Excel-based solution, which was no longer able to meet the increased requirements.
Document maintenance tasks directly on the equipment.
At the end of 2021, an update was carried out and the system was migrated to the Azure cloud. Since then, TEEKANNE has been using the latest version of the cloud-based Ultimo Enterprise Asset Management solution, which allows data and documents to be accessed from anywhere and at any time. Malte Poschmann: ‘With Ultimo, our employees now work directly on the machines with tablets and have access to maintenance tasks and documents anytime, anywhere. The intuitive software simplifies implementation and logging. At the same time, Ultimo gives us a valuable overview of the performance and maintenance requirements of our equipment.’
Ultimo makes our maintenance management mobile and accessible from anywhere. The EAM system is therefore an essential component for implementing digital and paperless production administration.

Documentation with Ultimo meets IFS requirements
It was also very important to TEEKANNE that maintenance tasks and repairs could be documented in an audit-proof manner in order to meet the high requirements for IFS certification. Ultimo guarantees this as an audit-proof system by logging all work carried out in a traceable manner. Mobile access directly at the machine enables the use of checklists and processes. It also ensures the reliable recording of all activities, including working and downtime.
Data-based optimisation of maintenance
TEEKANNE also analyses the data collected with Ultimo to optimise maintenance intervals and use the insights gained to increase the availability of production facilities. Fixed maintenance tasks ensure that safety-related components in the systems, such as emergency stop switches, are checked regularly. This increases occupational safety and records compliance with the relevant specifications. The inspection of operating resources is also mapped via Ultimo.
Challenges for TEEKANNE:
Advantages of using IFS Ultimo
High user-friendliness
Prior to introducing the EAM solution, TEEKANNE reviewed the suitability of several solutions based on a set of specifications. The decisive factors in favour of Ultimo were its high user-friendliness and the recommendation by an existing Ultimo customer in the Netherlands, who gave the TEEKANNE team direct insights into the solution during an on-site visit and answered important questions, particularly regarding its use in the food industry. ‘The quick response and good support convinced us, in addition to Ultimo's price-performance ratio,’ says Malte Poschmann.
‘This impression was confirmed during the introduction and adaptation phase, and we are completely satisfied with our decision.’ Another of the company's locations in Germany is now working with Ultimo, and implementation in other plants is already planned, including internationally. The next step will be to integrate SAP in the cloud. Malte Poschmann: "Ultimo helps us to improve the productivity of our plants and optimise maintenance management. We look forward to making even better use of the potential of this advanced EAM solution in the future."
